Rod Twitchin established Rod Twitchin Marine Pty Ltd (RTM) in 2011 after 25 years of previous industry experience, both shore and sea-based.
Our suite of Professional Marine Services includes all types of vessel surveying, from pre-purchase surveys to insurance condition reporting, vessel valuations, project management & consultancy to expert witness and all things in between.
RTM is based on the Gold Coast in Queensland.
We travel locally, nationally & internationally, sharing our 35-plus years of knowledge and experience to help you enjoy smoother and safer boating experiences.

We are a family-owned and run business, with Rodβs wife Renee an integral part of RTMβs operations.
Renee Twitchin - Owner, Surveyor
Renee has been working in the Marine Industry for over 10 years and has a sound sailing & boating background.
Renee also has strong administration and management experience and has been assisting Rod with vessel surveys and the operation of RTM since 2015.
Renee also holds her own Surveyors Certification through the Australasian Institute of Marine Surveyors (AIMS) which she completed in 2023.
While she is not studying and keeping Rod in check, she also assists with project coordination, client & trade liaisons, reporting and administration.

The marine industry has been Rodβs main working platform since his apprenticeship in 1984. Rodβs first formal AMSA (Australian Maritime Safety Authority) accreditation was in 1993 to skipper smaller vessels, then Engineer (1999), Ships Master (2000), & Commercial Surveyor (2012).
Certification in Vessel Valuations, a Trade Certificate in Mechanics, Open Water Diver, and shore-based positions as General Manager and Project Manager of large refit & repair companies make him perfect for just about any job that involves handling, inspecting, or repairing vessels.
In 2011, Rod established Rod Twitchin Marine Pty Ltd, which allowed him to move away from the desk, hitting the front line again and being involved hands-on with his clients and vessels, providing personal and good old-fashioned service.

Spending over 10 years at sea as a Master and Engineer, Rod has visited many shipyards worldwide for annual maintenance and refit works as the client.
Couple this with working within a shipyard environment as the project manager, itβs fair to say Rod has vast experience from both sides of the marine industry. This has forged an unlimited level of service and an unrivalled understanding of the meaning of time, quality and budget.
