Rod Twitchin Marine (RTM) was established in 2011 by Rod and Renee Twitchin, bringing together decades of hands‑on marine experience across commercial, recreational and international operations.
What began as a small, family‑run surveying practice has grown into a trusted, independent provider of Marine Surveys and Professional Marine Services for vessel owners, buyers, operators and insurers throughout Australia and abroad.
RTM’s approach has always been simple: provide clear, factual, unbiased advice that helps people make confident decisions on the water.
Whether you own a small trailer boat, a family cruiser, a commercial workboat or a large superyacht, you receive the same level of professionalism, independence and personal service.

RTM works with recreational and commercial clients across the full range of vessel types and sizes. Independence is central to everything we do – we don’t sell boats, we don’t repair boats, and we don’t have hidden interests. Our responsibility is to you, and our role is to provide clarity, structure and confidence at every stage of vessel ownership.
Based on Queensland’s Gold Coast, RTM provides services locally, nationally and internationally. We travel regularly and can mobilise at short notice to support clients wherever their vessel is located.

Renee Twitchin - Surveyor, Operations & Client Support
Renee has been an integral part of RTM since 2015 and has lived the business every day for more than a decade. With a strong boating and sailing background, she brings practical, hands‑on experience to the way RTM operates and supports clients. Over the years, Renee has developed a deep understanding of vessels, surveying processes, reporting requirements and client needs through consistent, real‑world involvement across all aspects of the business.
Renee works alongside Rod on many surveys, contributing directly in the field and supporting RTM’s structured approach to vessel assessment. Her time on deck, combined with her operational oversight, gives her a well‑rounded perspective that strengthens the accuracy, clarity and efficiency of RTM’s work.
In addition to her surveying role, Renee coordinates projects, manages client and trade communication, and ensures the smooth delivery of RTM’s services.
Her attention to detail, calm approach and strong organisational capability allow RTM to maintain the high standards clients have come to expect.
While Rod is on the tools and in the field, Renee is the backbone of RTM’s day‑to‑day operations – keeping the workflow moving, supporting clients, and ensuring every engagement is handled professionally from start to finish.
Rod Twitchin — Managing Director & Principal Marine Consultant
Rod’s marine career began with his mechanical apprenticeship in 1984 and has spanned more than 35 years across engineering, operations, surveying, consultancy, refit management and senior shore‑based roles.
His first AMSA accreditation was issued in 1993, followed by Coxswain (1997), Engineer (1999), Master (2000) and Commercial Surveyor (2012). Rod also holds MCI (Maritime Cook Islands) Commercial Surveyor accreditation for vessels <400GT, supporting RTM’s international capability.
Rod’s experience includes over a decade at sea as both Master and Engineer, countless coastal passages and ocean crossings, and extensive time in shipyards worldwide overseeing maintenance and refit works. He has also held positions such as Harbour Master, Marina Manager, General Manager and Project Manager for major refit and repair facilities specialising in superyachts.
This combination of sea‑time, engineering, surveying, consultancy and project management gives Rod a rare, well‑rounded understanding of vessels from both the client and shipyard perspectives. It has shaped RTM’s commitment to clarity, quality and practical, real‑world advice – and underpins the independent, governance‑aligned approach RTM is known for today.
